If there’s one thing we know about having children, it’s the fact there are plenty of surprises associated with raising them. One of those surprises is the gender of the child, even though we have ways of determining this earlier.
Ask any parent and they will tell you that they love all of their children equally. Boy or girl, young or old, they all have a special place in the hearts of the parent.
Alexis Brett, a mother from England has been trying to have a girl for many years. In fact, it wasn’t until she was having her 11th child that she would finally give birth to a girl.
In this particular case, the mother from England gave birth to 10 boys. You can see them in the picture and they are stairstep children.
Finally, she gave birth to another child and at that point, she was the proud mother of a daughter. In speaking of this, she simply said that it was a fantastic feeling.
Last Christmas Eve, the mother suspected that she might be pregnant again. After taking a home pregnancy test, her suspicion was confirmed and she just figured she would have another son. When a gender scan was given, they were surprised to find out they were having a girl.
Brett was only 22 years old when she had her first son. For 15 years, they continued to have sons. It was a complete surprise when they were told that they’d have to buy some clothes for girls.
“Curiosity did get the better of us,” she recalled. “When the results came in [the mail, (my son)] Harrison opened the envelope because I was too nervous. When we realised it was a girl, we were amazed. It sounds silly because it’s a 50-50 chance, but we were surprised anyway.”
She went on to say: “I’d been expecting to hear we were having another boy but when I found out it was a girl, my face was a picture. I was shocked but delighted. Now she’s here with us, it’s a fantastic feeling.”
The little girl’s name is Cameron, after Cameron Diaz. Her oldest brother is 17 years old, meaning there is a 16 year age difference between the two.
The mother also said that they were definitely stopping at this point.
“We’ve been asked a lot whether we’ve had so many children because we were hoping for that elusive girl,” she said. “But I can honestly answer no. Cameron wasn’t planned, but I was happy all the same, and if another boy had been on the way it wouldn’t have bothered me.
“I’m an only child myself and I’d never planned to have a large family, but now that I do, I love it. I always joked I wouldn’t have a clue what to do with a girl anyway but that’s all changed now, of course, and I have to admit that we’re having a lot of fun buying pink things for the first time”
There are some people who comment unnecessarily about the large family but she is able to let it roll off her back. She just said that they were used to it and some people feel as if they need to benefit in this way but they don’t heed.
